Legends why is the sea salty
Ang-ngalo was relieved. Soon the villagers came back with their sacks and pails full of salt. But Ang-ngalo was overcome with his fear of the bites of red ants, so, he refused to stretch his leg. Without salt all our food will get spoiled. Because of his kindness, he stretched again his leg across the sea.
They walked slowly as before. They walked slowly and told Ang-ngalo not to mind the ants. They started biting him and his leg was burning with itchiness.
At last the giant could not help lifting his leg. He dipped his itchy leg in the water to get rid of the biting ants. The men were caught off guard. Before there were Bloods and Crips, there were gods and demons. Not a group to give up easily, the gods called in the powerful sage Agastya, who drank up the entire ocean, exposing the demons who were swiftly taken down by the gods.
At the end of the battle, it was time to put the ocean back where it belonged. Whether Agastya urinated or spewed out the ocean, the ocean has been salty ever since.
No one likes to run out of salt when they have food to prepare, especially when the closest source is across the stormy sea. Such was the predicament for villagers on an island near the Philippines who usually boated to a neighboring island to collect the essential cooking ingredient. Not keen on cutting back on sodium and flavor , one villager had the brilliant idea to ask the local friendly giant to lend a hand—or rather, a leg.
The giant agreed to stretch his leg and make a bridge to the other island, sitting down so the villagers could troop over the violent sea. Geraldine McCaughrean. Susan Price.
